Terrorism

Filed under: terrorism — admin @ 8:43 pm

Terrorism, in the modern world, does not signify the olden age warfare where the physical wits are matched with each other in the battlefield. Instead it focuses on the mental war between the foes, who can be anybody ranging from people with different views to different cultures. The disturbing fact about the Terrorism is it uses the name of ‘religion’ for enforcing the beliefs and ideologies of certain groups onto the general public. These groups have the most sophisticated arms and ammunitions, not always being developed by themselves, smuggled through various sources right from traitors to the spies in various countries. The most vocal support for these groups come from various banned organizations which defy the government laws in providing the intelligence inputs regarding various national security secrets. Terrorism is rampant in most of the countries which are hampered by war, thereby providing illegal protection to these groups which flourishes itself amidst poverty-stricken hapless people.
The various measures taken by the Governments in tackling terrorism by enacting strict laws to combat anti-social elements have to be supported by the people, per se. Difference of views between the politicians should not abet the terrorist groups in tackling the personal scores, which might also claim other innocent victims.

Linking of rivers

Filed under: River — admin @ 8:39 pm

In our country which is full of natural resources, ‘water’ has always remained precious and that’s why people used to worship water bodies such as river Ganges, river Vaigai etc., since the golden olden days. After the Indian independence, various States have been formulated by our politicians and various water bodies with the origin in a particular state have been ‘copyrighted’ by the respective statesmen within the ambit of their state. The dams have been built for the storage of the water and the water for the irrigation would be provided from these dams. During monsoon the dams will invariably be full and the discharge will start diminishing once the summer starts and the rain falters. The states will always fight among themselves to share this ‘stored’ water of the rivers in the dams and thus started the concept of ‘linking’ of rivers, which ‘on paper’ might seems to the ideal solution for the sharing of water between various states. But the legal hurdles it has to face on its path is too much and the actual ‘linking’ of the rivers has run into rough weather with the politicians making hay while the sun shines. The various states in between the water bodies have started objecting to the ‘linking’ process thereby stalling the progress of this good notion for ending the water drought facing our country, ever since we gained our independence.

Postal system in India

Filed under: Communication — admin @ 8:39 pm

During ancient times, Horses and pigeons were used for conveying the messages from one place to another. When British took over the country, they introduced us to the system of Posts by opening Post offices in Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. The stamps were also subsequently issued and general public started to use this system for the communication purpose. Later value added services such as Speed post and money order service were introduced by the government for the general public. The days of greeting cards with variety of designs during auspicious functions such as Diwali and Pongal is still not forgotten.
Currently, the postal system has started losing it’s identity because of the advancement in science
and the introduction of private operators. The concept of ‘courier’ has picked up and people has started to embrace this form of transportation purely because of safety and speed. The advent of Internet has introduced people to the concept of ‘e-mail’ which has picked up at a frantic pace and every 1 in 4 people currently own an e-mail address and started communicating through internet. The mail sent from one place reaches the destination at the next second, making it the fastest means of communication ever heard, displacing the postal system.
